Designing a scalable platform where contractors can access training, manage tenders, and grow their business within Dulux’s ecosystem.

Dulux, a global leader in paints and coatings, wanted to strengthen its relationship with contractors who rely on its products. However, these professionals had to juggle multiple fragmented systems for training, product knowledge, promotions, and tendering opportunities.
My role was to design a unified platform that would simplify their workflow, improve engagement, and provide a central hub for everything contractors needed in their day-to-day operations.

Problem
Fragmented experience: Training, product information, and tendering were spread across different tools.
Low engagement: Contractors found it difficult to stay connected to Dulux on a regular basis.
Complex processes: Creating and tracking tenders was slow and error-prone.
Process
1. Discovery & Research
Conducted interviews with contractors to understand their needs, frustrations, and motivations.
Created journey maps to visualize current pain points in the tendering and training processes.
2. Wireframing & User Flows
Designed simplified flows for different user types (contractor, admin).
Streamlined the tendering process into a clear step-by-step journey.
3. Visual Design & UI System
Developed a modular UI system that reflected Dulux’s brand while modernizing the look and feel.
Designed a dashboard-centric interface to bring the most important contractor tasks “front and center.”
4. Collaboration
Worked closely with developers to ensure prototypes were feasible and efficient to implement.
Iterated quickly, testing prototypes with stakeholders and refining flows for clarity.
Solution
Unified Dashboard:
Contractors could access training, active tenders, and promotions at a glance.
Step-by-Step Tender Flow:
The complex tender creation process was simplified into three clear stages, reducing errors and saving time.
Knowledge Base & Training:
Training materials and certifications were fully integrated, making skill updates accessible and trackable.
Impact
Dulux Connect taught me the value of ecosystem design, creating products not just for individuals but for a community of users with different roles. It also reinforced how crucial simplification is in enterprise environments, where reducing friction has a direct business impact.
